An optional hyphen has the opposite effect. Click on the Non-breaking hyphen row to select it. From the Symbol dialog box, click on the Special Characters tab. A drop-down box will open up, click on More Symbols. Go to the Insert tab, in the Symbols group, click on the Symbol icon. With nonbreaking hyphens, the entire expression or term wraps to the next line instead of breaking. Click where you want to insert the non-breaking hyphen.

I recorded this in a macro and the code also shows the search item as " " (a space).
